*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*GODLINESS WITH CONTENTMENT.*
*Scripture Treasure.*
1 Tim 6:6 *But godliness with contentment is great gain.*
*Insight and Highlight.*
Contentment teaches us that if we are able to see what God has done for us, we will not feel less important than someone else.
*Scripture Commentaries.*
When you are able to appreciate what God has done or given you, you will not wish you have what others have. You will not feel less important than others. You will thank God and be satisfied and content.
Though contentment is not given much mention in the scriptures but it is applied in every of Christ's teachings.
His teachings on covetousness, the parable on the rich fool, parable of pearl, of the field, of the vineyard workers, etc. all have underlying them, the power of contentment.
Most explosive is in Luke 12:15 when He clearly stated that we beware of covetousness.
Ultimate to Christ's teaching is seeking first the Kingdom and its righteousness, Matt 6:33.
Christ teaches here that we seek first the Kingdom of God.
Here, Christ teaches that it is contentment when we seek and accept the Kingdom, all it has to offer and be satisfied with it. When we do things of the Kingdom will be added to us.
You can not wish more or less than the Kingdom offers. This is the fundamental and foundational core value of the child of God.
Christ further teaches us contentment in pursuit of worldly power, dominion. It is not worth pursuing what we know we can not have forever and lose what we will have forever, Mark 8:36-37.
*For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?*
*Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?*
Paul teaches us that contentment is not in isolation. It must be in conjuction with godliness or else it may lead to just accepting things as they are, seeing things as fate, seeing things as 'whatever will be will be', an unwillingness to pursue dreams and ambition or just maintaining a status quo or living things as they are.
Godliness, when applied in conjuction with contentment, is telling us to accept as God offers by not changing what we do not have control over.
Paul teaches that one thing that can help us with contentment is that
*".....we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.*, 1 Tim 6:7.
If you do not compare yourself with others, you will be content.
*Remorse corner.*
A contented child of God will not compare him/herself.
*Call to Word action.*
2 Cor 10:12 *For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.*
*The Christian clarion duty.*
Luke 12:15 *And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.*
*Prayer.*
Help me to be content. Let me not compare myself with others in Jesus name.
Good morning all, and have a blessed day.
God bless you.
