*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*

*MENDING BROKEN REEDS (2)*

*Scripture Treasure.*

Isaiah 53:5 *But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him.*

*Insight and Highlight.*

Jesus was a bruised reed. The enemies could not break Him.

*Scripture Commentaries.*

Jesus became a perfect example of a bruised reed but the enemies could not break Him.

First, He was bruised but His bones were not broken.

John 19:32-34 *Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.*

*But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:*

*But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.*

What happened to Jesus here teaches us how important not breaking a reed that is already bruised.

2 Cor 4:8-9 (NIV) says *We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;*

*persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.*

Prov 19:14:(NIV) *The human spirit can endure in sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear?*

Psalm 34:18 (NIV) *The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.*

A crushed spirit lacks the strength to continue. Hopes are totally lost.

Though Jesus was crucified, all hopes were not lost. His death and resurrection brought hope to us even unto eternity.

Elijah's spirit was not only bruised, wounded it was crushed.

He was in a state of total emotional, mental, and spiritual brokenness, characterized by overwhelming despair, hopelessness, and exhaustion.

He lost control of himself forgetting how recently he had just called fire down, 1 Kgs 18:20-40, 2 Kgs 1:10-14

He asked that God would take him.

He *"......requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is enough! Now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am not better than my fathers.”* 1 Kgs 19:4.

Second, He was bruised but His spirit was not broken/crushed..

Jesus' spirit could not be crushed.

At His death, He still had control over His spirit.

He said in Luke 23:46 *Father, into your hands I commit my spirit"*

When a wounded or bruised reed is broken, the spirit is crushed.

Do not crush a bruised reed.

Mend it, through Christ!

*Remorse corner*

Only those who are in Christ have control over their spirits

*Call to Word action.*

People, whose spirits are crushed have no control of themselves.

Proverbs 25:28, which states: *"He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls"* (KJV).

*The Christian clarion duty.*

Do not crush a broken/wounded reed.

Mend it.

*Prayer.*

Help me to see a healed soul in every bruised or wounded soul, in Jesus name.

Good morning all and have a blessed day.

God bless you.

Shalom.
