*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*WHAT CAN'T YOU DO?*
*Scripture Treasure.*
Gen 11: 1-9
v1 *And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.*
v2 *And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.*
v3 *And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.*
v4 *And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.*
v5 *And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.*
v6 *And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.*
v7 *Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.*
v8 *So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.*
v9 *Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.*
*Insight and Highlight.*
Human unity and collective ambition are
potentials to achieve anything the children of men imagine, if they are not against God.
*Scripture Commentaries.*
Gen 11 records man's infite ability to do anything if they had not rebelled against God.
In Gen 11:4, the construction of *".....a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven;....."* and how children of men encouraged themselves to totally unite with a decision against God marked the beginning of what would disunite them forever.
From God's word that *"... Behold, the people is one,..... and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.* teaches us that there was one thing less than God's decision to send Adam and Eve out of Eden. This was His decision to retain one language for the entire world and with this was the power to do as they wanted.
With this power of one language there was nothing the children of men could not do in oneness.
With one language, nothing would be restrained from the children of men which they have imagined to do. An unlimited freedom.
Two times (Gen 11: 3, 4) the people completed a total unity and consensus to rebel against God by a deliberate act to move and disperse as one people away from God to focus on their own glory rather than God's plan.
Each of them must have been encouraging one another with the statement of self imposed confidence 'What can't you do"?"What can you not do"?
They were unchecked, free to do what they wanted to do but God intercepted by scattering them, limiting their potential for self-exaltation and preventing an escalating spiral/tower of evil.
We can only *"......do all things......"* (Phillipians 4:13) only through being one with Christ who strengthens.
We can not do anything, though we may be united as a people, if we are not united with Christ.
Jesus says in Matt 12:30 *He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.*
He says in Matt 12:25 *Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:*
What can't you do? (i.e What can you not do) Nothing. There is nothing you can not do, if you have Christ.
Jesus says *"....nothing is impossible to those who believe"* Mark 9:23, Matt 17:20.
In other words *".....If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.* Mark 9:23 (KJV)
What can't you do? (i.e What can you not do) Nothing. There is nothing you can do, if you do not have Christ.
What can't you do? Everything. Everything around you is impossible for you to do, if you do not have Christ.
What side of "What can't you do" are you?
Is it a prohibition, restriction or a limitation to you or is it direct question and assertion of what you are capable and competent to do.
The difference is Christ! What can't you do as a child of God? There is no limitation as to what you can do!
*Remorse corner.*
United humanity still has its strength and potential to achieve anything we do or imagine, if it is not done with pride and defiance against God's command.
*Call to Word action.*
Psalm 133:1 *Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!*
*The Christian clarion duty.*
Unchecked freedom and collective power would no longer be unity with God but a unified rebellion of humanity against God.
*Prayer.*
Lord, let me with united and one with God, in Jesus name.
Good morning all and have a blessed day.
God bless you.
Shalom.
