*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*

*MENDING BROKEN REEDS.*

*Scripture Treasure.*

Matt 12:20 *A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.*

*Insight and Highlight.*

There are people that appear strong yet they are weak.

*Scripture Commentaries.*

Life is an irony. It flips in a blink of an eye.

At times life feels normal and predictable and in a moment it is abnormal and unpredictable. One moment, everything changes.

Solomon encourages we enjoy life because it is a gift of God, Eccl 3:13.

Life is however not enjoyable for everyone.

There are unfulfilled expectations, betrayal, disappointments etc.

There are broken/ bruised reeds.

They are pressed down with the troubles of this world, 2 Cor 4:8-12.

They struggle with doubt and fear.

They are feeble, disheartened, broken hearted, hurting, afflicted and ready to break.

To every bruised reed, there is a healing love of Christ.

People who are bruised reeds cannot heal themselves. They can only do so if they look beyond their distresses to Christ. This is where the hopes of healing lies.

As bruised reed, may not yet be broken.

Even when broken reed, you are still not cast away. Hopes are not lost.

There is a promise of Christ's power and an assurance of God's care and concern in the lives of the bruised, battered and crushed lives (Isaiah 42:3)

When we mishandle bruised reeds, they break to become broken reeds.

When reeds (souls) are broken, it further shows that we have not been tendered or compassionate with them

When we mishandle bruised reed that ends up broken, it means we have crushed

the spirit or destroyed the trust of the wounded soul.

A bruised reed is a wounded soul and must be saved from breaking. If ever it is broken it must not be cast away but restored.

Look out or be attentive to reeds/souls that appear strong yet are weak.

It is only through intense compassionate efforts that would encourage the weak to say he is strong.

Joel says *"..... let the weak say, I am strong.* (Joel 3:10).

It is also an encouragement for the weak to speak faith and trust in divine power rather than his human weakness.

Do not crush bruised reeds?

Do not break bruised reeds?

Do not cast away bruised or broken reeds.

Mend them!

*Remorse corner.*

The bruised reed can encourage himself by reversing his current state (weakness) by speaking words of strength and victory based on God's power, even when feeling weak.

2 Corinthians 12:10, Paul states, *"For when I am weak, then I am strong".*

*Call to Word action.*

Jesus cares. He will have pity on the broken-hearted, compassion for the humble, affection for the penitent, and healing for the afflicted, Matt 11:28-29.

*The Christian clarion duty.*

Come to Him in faith, humbly trusting His strength, and you will find that He is gracious to all

*Prayer.*

Lord help me to rely on Your strength daily, in Jesus name.

Good morning and be blessed as you come into His presence today.

God bless you.

Shalom.
