*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*FAITH OF OLD.*
*Scripture Treasure.*
Jude 1: 3 *Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.*
*Insight and Highlight.*
To keep the faith of old, we must resist the so-called new and improved faith of today.
*Scripture Commentaries.*
Everything is now new and improved.
What we had a decade ago is not the same as we have them today.
There is hardly any present innovation that does not require updates or new discoveries. Competition has opened doors for the new and improved.
Jude points out the faith that is faith that was once delivered unto the saints. This is faith of old. Just as the religion of old as was delivered to the early disciples and the early Church by Jesus Christ. This is our foundation of the true Christian faith.
Are we being warned here by Jude against faith that we try to modernize today?
One of the challenges to the faith of old is invention and state of the art discoveries. We are seriously challenged by them.
Solomon warns us that inventions can affect our uprightness, Eccl 7:29.
The gospel of Jesus is a gospel of faith. Faith in asking and faith as we await answers.
Today, the gospel is going through a phase of change in order to be compatible with the present world.
It is a fast changing world, but how can we do this without watering down the very essence of the gospel?
How do we do the gospel in order to be compatible with the present age?
Jude saw it coming. He used the word 'contend', which we can adduce to mean striving against opposition.
Jude is saying that, as it was of old, faith of old will face tough oppositions as time passes, Jude 1: 4-5.
There will be an ongoing battle to make it irrelevant or replace it with the new wave of faith.
'Faith of old' is facing tough competition, and we must contend, fight, resist, everything that would demean it.
Jude is warning us that if we fail to contend for the faith of old, or the faith that was once delivered to us, we may not be able to move mountains, raise the dead, or make impossible things possible.
Not that inventions are bad, Solomon and Jude are telling us that if control, motivation, passion and the urge to do what is different are not aligned with the fundamental truth that Jesus preached, we may lose focus while we think we are focusing.
Anything that can not replace the Holy Spirit requires a careful prayerful pursuit and implementation.
Remember the faith that was once delivered to you. If that faith saved you, it means you have life through it.
So why would you abandon this to a modern style of faith that would lead you astray and soon fade away?
Do not lose the faith of old!! You need faith that can save you to eternity with God.
Faith of old is old but not old to solve and move today and tomorrow's mountains.
*Remorse Corner.*
What is expected of faith is a little as a mustard seed, not more or less. Passage of time, advancement, and discovery will not change it.
*Call to Word action.*
Matthew 17:20 *And Jesus said unto them, “Because of your unbelief; for verily I say unto you, if ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, ‘Remove hence to yonder place,’ and it shall remove. And nothing shall be impossible unto you.*
*The Christian clarion duty.*
Faith is a relationship. Good and perfect relationships do not expire. Time has no power to invalidate it.
*Prayer.*
Lord, let nothing distract me from the faith of old, in Jesus name.
Good morning all, and have a blessed day.
God bless you.
