Daniel 1:21 And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.
Scripture Commentaries
Daniel was a disciplined Jew and though now brought into captivity, he continued in the Spirit of piety.
The way Daniel disciplined himself did not start in Babylon, it started from home. The scripture in Daniel 1:3-4 says king Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon requested "....for certain of the children of Israel, and of the king's seed, and of the princes;...."
Children in whom was no blemish,.....and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace.."
The Babylonian environment did not change him. He still prayed as he was doing in the Jewish land, disciplined his appetite. He was not carried away by the comfort in the king's palace.
You can choose to be different from what entails in your environment.
Reflect, today, on how much your environment has changed you. If negatively, amend your ways.

Daniel 1:5 And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years,...."
Given the same comfort, Daniel and his friends had, would you still be devoted as they were?
The Christian clarion duty
What people who have rule over you in the secular say is totally absolute. If your intentions are to achieve God's purpose, you can dictate what you want done for you and they must oblige.
Daniel 11:11-12,14 Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.
So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.
Prayer
Lord, help me as I strive to thrive to overcome my environment in order to please you, in Jesus name.
