Updated: Jan 6, 2022
Acts 5:36-37 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.
After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.

Scripture Commentaries
Those whom God loves, He instructs to follow Him, (Abraham in Gen 17:1), yet there are those like Enoch, Daniel who decided and purposed to follow God by their own choices, Gen 5:24, Dan 1:8.
Some people are opportune by God to follow righteous guidance but wrong choices and ego do lead them astray.
Many times we feel we are right yet we are wrong, Prov 14:12.
In our text of today, Gamaliel informed of a people that followed a man called
Theudas, who boasted himself to be somebody. Theudas was slain, his deceived followers, who fell for his deception, were scattered and ended up losers.
After Theudas rose a Judas of Galilee who also drew people after himself. This Judas also perished and his followers were scattered!
Gamaliel further addressed the people who were against Peter and the other Apostles, beseeching the people to be careful and encouraging them to follow righteousness.
If what you do or what you are asked to do is of God, you will not lose and because it is of God, you cannot overthrow it. If it is of God, resisting is as fighting against God, Acts 5: 38-39.
