NOT ENOUGH FOR MORE THAN ENOUGH

Updated: Nov 18, 2021

Mark 12: 41-44 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.

Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

Insight and Highlight Philp 4:18-19 "...having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well-pleasing to God. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Those who give God what they have, receive from Him what they do not have.

Scripture Commentaries Whatever we have can never fully satisfy our wants, needs, and desires, Eccl 2:11, 4:8, 6:7, 5:11 Anyone with a heart of giving thinks beyond what they have. They do not consider what they have before they give. The less they have the more they give, Mark 12:44.

There are people whom, the more they have the more they give, Mark 12:44. Jesus did not reject their offering but only said they gave because they had abundance and they would not give if they did not have it. What they gave depended on their abundance. They are best explained in 2 Cor 8:12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.

The widow, however, gave sacrificially. By the giving of the poor widow, Jesus explained how our offering is measured in the Kingdom of God- which is that: Offering/giving is measured by the sacrifice behind it.

It also teaches you do not to have to have much to be a giver. The poor can give as much as the rich can give, those who earn less often give more than those who earn more. Also, people who do not have, give more than those who have. That is why Jesus said Mark 12: 43 ".....Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.

Remorse corner What we have can never be enough for us. Let us give "what is not enough to receive more than enough".
