BROKENNESS: VITAL FOR RESTORATION

Updated: Nov 17, 2021

Psalm 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

Insight and Highlight

Psalm 34:18 The LORD is near to the brokenhearted; He saves the contrite in spirit.

Brokenness is a state of complete surrender and deep sorrow for sin, 2 Cor 7:10.

Scripture Commentaries

David made it clear that restoration to fellowship with God is in no way other than to confess and repent from the sin.

To try to settle God in any other way is to complicate matters.

The sacrifices which God really values and desires are a broken spirit, a contrite heart.

This is brokenness. It is the state at which we rid ourselves of our outer shell, the fleshly part of us, that needs to be thrown off in order to bring forth the good things that are in us.

A broken spirit brings about a new life, just like a chick breaks out its eggshell and a new life begins.

Like David, when sin has taken its toll and though the joy on account of forgiveness and restoration to God's favour does not exclude consequences on account of past sin, we all must come to a point to recognize there is no place to turn but to God.

Do not struggle in that shell of sin. Break yourself loose. Brokenness is vital for your restoration and new life.

Remorse corner

David says in Psalm 31:12 ....l am like a broken vessel.

Many may be ashamed of brokenness, you may be despised for being broken, but God heals the brokenhearted.

Call to Word action

Are you afraid to be broken because of shame? Remember Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

The Christian clarion duty

There is no sin so terrible God cannot forgive. Remember He bore the shame of the cross, His body was broken, for you!

1 Cor 11:24. Remember how He suffered, "....just for the unjust .....", 1 Peter 3:18.

Prayer

Psalm 51:10-11 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thy holy spirit from me.

Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit., in Jesus name.

Good morning all and have a blessed day, today.

God bless you.
