SAUL, A "FRIEND" NOT BETTER THAN AN ENEMY (2)

Updated: Mar 16, 2022

1 Sam 18:17 And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD'S battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.

Insight and Highlight

There are some people whom you could say "you do not need enemies when you have them as friends."

Scripture Commentaries

No one could ever imagine a man would give his daughter away in marriage to a man just for the reason of killing him.

Saul's intention was that he wanted David killed, so he found no other way to lead him to his early death than to entice him to marry his daughter, Merab.

No reasonable man would want his daughter to suffer the loss of her husband but it was not so for king Saul.

An enemy within is most vile, extremely, and unpleasantly most dangerous. Pray to know who they are.

Also more important to note is: not everything that appears good is good after all.

Until the impurities of king Saul were taken away David could not have the peace he much needed.

Proverbs 25:4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.

Be careful, Proverbs 10:18 says *He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.

Remorse corner

Proverbs 26:25 When he speaks graciously, do not believe him, for seven abominations fill his heart.

A famous actress of the Hollywood Golden age once said "Dogs never bite me, only humans do".

Call to Word action

Proverbs 26:23 (NLT) Smooth words may hide a wicked heart, just as a pretty glaze covers a clay pot.

The Christian clarion duty

Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

Prayer

Lord, reveal to me every evil heart, help me to deal with it. Let me not be carried away by favors that appear real yet dangerous, in Jesus name.

Good morning all and have a blessed day today.

God bless you.
