Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Insight and Highlight
Jesus speaks to His children born of the Spirit to regain dominion by striving for a better world, not by the carnal sword but by the Sword of the Spirit, Eph 6.
Scripture Commentaries
Jesus emphatically disabused any mind disposed to carnality to win the battle against Satan. Matt 26:52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all, they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
Satan robbed the world of its peace. Jesus Christ came to restore peace and salvation through His death and resurrection.
God engaged us in spiritual conflict against Satan. To achieve such, Christ came to set us at variance against the devil through the power of the Spirit, the word, the sword of the Spirit.
The power of the Holy Ghost is best explained in the mission of the fore-runner, John who foreshadowed Jesus' ministry of restoration and reconciliation:
Luke 1: 16-17 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
For peace to reign in the earth, Jesus brought the sword (God's power through His word), available to believers to wage war against Satan.
It is through the sword that peace can be made manifest through victory over Satan.
Luke 11:20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.
When Satan is cast out by the Spirit of God, peace will take its place.
Though divisions will occur in the family over Christ's plans of salvation (Matt 10: 34-35) we can be sure that the word of God will ultimately turn hearts back to the Lord and bring salvation to all.
Do you want the peace of God? Resist the power of Satan, through the Sword of the Spirit.
Remorse Corner
Jesus brought peace but His peace is resisted by the disobedience of the people. So He brought a sword through the Sword of the Spirit which serves as the only potent weapon to fight Satan, subdue him, that he may flee for peace to reign in the earth.
Call to Word action
Matt 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now, the Kingdom of Heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

Eph 6:17-18 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints
Prayer
Lord help me by the power of the Spirit to bring people who are divided over Christ's fellowship. Let your word restore peace to the hard-hearted soul and divided families, in Jesus' name.
