Scripture Commentaries

Envy brings hopelesness and depression. It is a feeling of discontentment and dissatisfaction.

The psalmist's envy of the wicked man's wealth caused him depression because he was troubled all day long, Ps 73:14, 16.

Envy can be a source of strife, ref Rom 13:13. It may bring about, sudden death, ref Job 5:3.

It makes a person give up on him/herself thinking they could never attain in life.

Believe your hope in God will not be in vain.

Besides you do not know the source of what you are envying. The psalmist concluded he had been foolish and ignorant because of needless envy, Ps 73:22.

Eliphaz commented saying when he discovered the foolish taking root, he cursed his habitation. Job 5:3 I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.

Be a contented person and live contentedly among people.

Hold on to God.
