Insight and Highlight
Obadiah 1:18 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire,..... and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them, and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.
Scripture Commentaries
The scriptures record two significant events of nature that point to the turnaround of Jacob.
First, after he had stolen his brother, Esau's, blessing, his father, Isaac, sent him away. The family was separated, fear gripped the family, and Jacob, himself feared for his life. Gen 28:11 says "And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night because the sun was set;.... ", Gen 28:13
Jacob was at a "sunset" but the word of God came to him. He named the place Bethel- the House of God.
Second, the sun did not rise upon him until after he wrestled with God.
Shortly after he received God's blessings in Gen 32:28, the sun rose upon him in Gen 32:31.
His life changed.
He received favor from his brother Esau, who had vowed to kill him.
His enemy wept on his shoulder instead of slaying him.
When you encounter God, after all, struggles, there comes a blessing.
Remorse corner
The sun rises, and Jacob was given a new name — Israel — which means 'he who wrestles with God"
Call to Word action
Hosea 12:4 Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spake with us.
The Christian clarion duty
Jacob has plenty of material possessions. His victory was assured and sealed after his wrestle. He received a Divine blessing.
Prayer
Psalm 113:3 From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD'S name is to be praised.
Lord remember me, as you remembered Jacob, from the rising of the sun to the going down of the same, in Jesus name.
