WHAT IS YOUR FORBIDDEN FRUIT?

Updated: Nov 17, 2021

Gen 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

Insight and Highlight

James 1:14 But each one is tempted when by his own evil desires he is lured away and enticed.

Scripture Commentaries

In the context of Adam and Eve's disobedience to God's command not to eat the fruit of the tree in the midst of the garden, the word "forbidden" is not used in the Bible. However, all narratives point to the fruit eaten as contrary to God's instruction to Adam thus rendering it a forbidden fruit. It would therefore be correct to refer to it as such because it was out of bounding for Adam and Eve to eat it.

Every sin is a "fruit" forbidden. Any sin that easily besets us becomes a forbidden fruit when we are entangled or caught up in it.

Moses' forbidden fruit was his uncontrolled anger, Numb 20:10. David's forbidden fruit was his uncontrolled lust, 2 Sam 11, Solomon's forbidden fruit was his strange women, 1 Kgs 11.

What is your forbidden fruit?

Remorse corner

What is your own forbidden fruit? Identify it while it is still in the midst of the garden. Seek not to pursue or be enticed to it.

Call to Word action

Genesis 3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

The Christian clarion duty

The harvest you reap reveals the seed you planted, Gal. 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption, but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

Prayer

Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Lord help me to deal with any sin that seeks to easily beset me in Jesus' name.
