WHY ASK FOR MERCY?

Psalm 85:10-11. Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

Truth shall spring out of the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven.

Insight and Highlight

Psalm 51:3-4  For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest and be clear when thou judgest.

Scripture Commentaries

If we are the children of God we proclaim to be, God must be all we live for.

Everything must be done with God at the back of our minds.

Joseph did not see falling into sin with Potiphar's wife as a sin against Potiphar but one against God, (Gen 39:9).

David said to Nathan "... I have sinned against the LORD..." 2 Sam 12:13.

Moses was restless, even when God had pronounced he will not enter the promised land, he persisted in prayer for mercy until God told him in Deut 3:26 "...Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter.

Though Moses did not take the people to the promised land, he retained God's pronounced commendation as a man of God and as the servant of God (Deut 34:5, Joshua 1:2)

An impeccable record was also added in Deut 34:10 And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face,

Moses' reverent heart and humble persistence though did not alter God's resolve to discipline him but it brought him under the New Covenant, talking with Jesus, in the flesh.

Though his temporary purpose was altered in the wilderness his eternal state was restored.

Not everyone receives mercy from God. He gives it to those He wishes (Rom 9:15) and scripture says mercy can be found and can be made available or received by those seeking it. Prov 28:13 Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

Remorse corner

To sin and refuse to ask for mercy is tantamount to mocking the power of God over sin unto repentance.

Call to Word action

To refuse to ask for mercy is to defy God.

It is as not owning up to one's sin and as the drunk when he has awakened from his drunkenness would say, Prov 23:35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

The Christian clarion duty

We must not behave as if nothing happened.

1 Chron 10:13-14 So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the Lord,......And enquired not of the Lord: therefore he slew him,...."

Prayer

Micah 7:18 Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger forever, because he delighteth in mercy.

God, have mercy on me, in Jesus' name.

Good morning all and have a blessed day.

God bless you.
