Matthew 26:44-46 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me. Insight and Highlight A prayer timely prayed, is life timely saved. Scripture Commentaries Three times Jesus came to His disciples to watch with Him, one hour and each time they were found asleep. The enemies did not show up until Jesus came to the disciples saying the "...he is at hand that doth betray me. Though Jesus had resolutely said He has come to die so as to save us from our sins, Mark 10:45, but we can learn two things from the timing of Jesus' prayer in Gestamane.
First that timely prayer does hold enemies back. The word you say can permit or restrain your enemies. Immediately Jesus said the enemies are at hand, in fact, the word was still in His mouth, the next verse reads in Matthew 26:47 And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people. Second, timely prayer helps and encourages us in warfare to face any life threatening situation. In life's challenges there will come a time when there will no longer be time to attempt an escape, and no more time can be given to repose but rather a time to confront danger. Jesus said Rise let us be going.." not to flee but to go face Judas and His arresters. Do not give up, the more threatening the situation the more prayer is required.
