THE BLIND SEER AND THE SEEING ASS

Numbers 22:24, 25 – But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.

And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself unto the wall and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall: and he smote her again.

Insight and Highlight

Not all can see but all can be made to see.

Prov 20:12 – The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.–

Scripture Commentaries

There is a mystery only known unto God. This mystery is known to men only when revealed to them.

The ability to see what others cannot see.

Prophet Balaam was on his ass, yet he could not see what his ass was seeing.

A seer who could not see, yet an unassuming animal, not created in the image of God, saw into the spiritual realm.

God's anger was kindled against Balaam so "....the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him."

ref Numb 22:22-33.

The ass "....saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand, she turned off the path and went into a field." Num 22:23

Apostle Peter sadly records, the prophet Balaam saying he ...was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.2 Pet 2:16.

Balaam was made mad, he struck the donkey "Then the LORD opened the donkey's mouth, and she said to Balaam, "What have I done to you that you have beaten me these three times?", Numb 22:28

Balaam had become a diviner, a sorcerer so

God frustrated him. Scripture records God ...frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward and maketh their knowledge foolish. Isaiah 44:25.

There are things meant for us to see but our wrong choices disqualified us.

Going by the dialogue between Balaam and God it seemed likely, he started as a God-fearing prophet but later backslid, ref , Numb 22:12, 20, 35, .23: 7-10, 18-24, 24:1-25,

For his transgression, Balaam paid dearly:

Psalm 39:11– You discipline and correct a man for his iniquity, consuming like a moth what he holds dear; surely each man is but a vapor. Selah.

Even worst was, he paid with his life, Joshua 13:22.

He will later be condemned and his name was written after the "incident, matter of Beor", Numb 31:16, and thrown into the abyss of vices behind immorality and false teachers, 2 Pet 2: 15, Jude 1:11, Rev 2:14.

The book of Isaiah 29:10-14,18,19 express God's unwillingness to declare His divine will to erring prophets, rulers, saying

For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered…

Remorse corner

Our greatest weapon against the devil is in our spiritual ability to see. God wants us to see into the spiritual: Matt 13:11-16– He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them, it is not given…

Call to Word action

We must be able to discern to test whether or not a spirit is of God, 1 John 4:1

Our inability to see what God wants us to see exposes us to grave consequences.

The Christian clarion duty

What we choose to do; either to compromise with the enemy or stand with God to conquer the enemy will determine to what extent we can see. Most times, we do not see because we are wise in our own eyes Isaiah 5:21– Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!.

Prayer

Lord, let not my eyes be closed to see your revelations. Do not reject me in your plan for my life, in Jesus' name.

Good morning all and have a blessed day today.

God bless you.
