PRIDE GOES BEFORE DESTRUCTION

1 Sam 25: 9-10 And when David's young men came, they spake to Nabal according to all those words in the name of David, and ceased.

And Nabal answered David's servants, and said, Who is David? and who is the son of Jesse? there be many servants nowadays that break away every man from his master.

Insight and Highlight

A famous quote says "Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less."

Proverbs16:18  Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall

Scripture Commentaries

Every human being has the propensity to be proud, and a false sense of self-sufficiency.

God destroyed and brought the land of Egypt down to a waste when they said in Ezk 29:9  "...The river is mine, and I have made it.

Pride knows no bounds. The poor as well as the rich, the young and old, can exhibit pride.

Pride of any nature is unacceptable to God, Jam 4:6.

Give a mortal man a little opportunity in a place or position with absolute power, he will corrupt absolutely.

The wise manage to overcome pride successfully but the proud sees nobody but himself, Prov 14:3 "...the lips of the wise [when they speak with godly wisdom] will protect them

Before God, a proud person has no excuse. He is proud because he chose to be.

He is in rebellion against God and at a war, he cannot win. God resists the proud.

He is in rebellion against a fellow human being, Nabal in 1 Sam 25:9 asked, who is David?..."

At least if he did not wish to give David what he requested, he would say so and avoid rash words against an already thirsty and hungry soul. Pride blinded him through self-ego. Through his false sense and eyes, he saw himself over all people.

Pharaoh asked in Exd 5:2 Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

Eli, the Priest remarked in

1 Sam 3:18 It is the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.

He cared less about how God felt!

Riches, leadership, spiritual, managerial positions of authority do not cure pride. Deal with your pride before all of these. Once prayerfully dealt with through the Holy Spirit, humility becomes your reasonable service without being compelled.

Proverbs 22:4  The reward for humility and fear of the LORD is riches and honor and life.

Remorse corner

Pride blinds and it is a weapon of satan. It makes you see yourself above and before others.

Proverbs 18:12  Before his downfall a man’s heart is proud, but humility comes before honor.

Call to Word action

Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes, disgrace follows, but with humility comes wisdom.

The Christian clarion duty

Humility brings you under the authority and it will ultimately promote you to be in authority.

Prayer

Proverbs 8:13  The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

Lord, help me to hate what you hate, in Jesus' name.

Good morning all and have a blessed day today.

God bless you.
