DO NOT BOAST YOURSELF IN MISCHIEF

Updated: Mar 7, 2022

1 Sam 22:7 Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the Lord; and his name was Doeg, an Edomite, the chiefest of the herdmen that belonged to Saul.

lnsight and Highlight

1 Samuel 22:9 Then answered Doeg the Edomite, which was set over the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.

Scripture Commentaries

The annotation of Psalm 52 reads "... A Psalm of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said unto him, David comes to the house of Ahimelech.

David wrote in Psalm 52:1 Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man?...."

David further wrote in v2 "Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor,...."

In the world we live in today, there are people who delight in mischief. They say everything their eyes see. They do not discern when it is right or wrong to say what they see. More damaging is, they boast about it.

Doeg told king Saul, he saw David with the priest at Nob. David immediately knew who told Saul.

David said to Abiathar in 1 Samuel 22:22

" l knew that Doeg the Edomite was there that day, and that he was sure to tell Saul. I myself am responsible for the lives of everyone in your father's house.

Doeg's "tongue" brought about an entire priestly massacre, 1 Samuel 22:9-18.

Ps 140:2 says such people like Doeg "....devise evil in their hearts and stir up war all day long."

Psalm 50:19 says of people like Doeg "Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.

Any time you see people keep their quiet when they see someone, it may be, that person carries the spirit of Doeg.

Will, what you know bring progress or reconciliation between two or more parties or will what you know wound a character enough to lose the hope of ever bringing people together again?

Do not delight in evil.

Remorse corner

Proverbs warns us saying if you keep your tongue from saying what will pierce a person like a sword, you are wise!

Call to Word action

Proverbs 12:18 There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

The Christian clarion duty

Proverbs 15:7 The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.

Prayer

Lord, deliver me from the tongue that devises mischiefs; tongues like a sharp razor, working deceitfully against my life, in Jesus name.

Good morning all and have a blessed day today.

God bless you.
