*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*

*THE TREE OF LIFE.*

*Scripture Treasure.*

Gen 2:9, 16-17; 3:22:

v9  *And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.*

v16  *And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:*

v17  *But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.*

Gen 3: 22  *And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:*

*Insight and Highlight.*

Jesus is the tree of life. In Him is all wisdom.

Rev 22:1-2  *And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.*

*In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, ....."*

*Scripture Commentaries.*

God separated the tree of life and the tree of good and evil from other trees in the garden, Gen 3.

The specific instruction was to not eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, Gen 2;17.

When the serpent came, Eve told him about the prohibited tree of life and the reason why they should not eat of either or both trees and the consequences that would follow.

While the prohibited tree of life and the consequences of eating from it (which was that they would die) was on her mention, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (with the same consequences) the serpent gave her an enticing answer that *"....God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil*, Gen 3:5.

God did not want Adam to eat of the tree of life because living forever was not a decision they could make themselves but God's.

God did not want Adam to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil because He did not want them to know what evil looked like. Only God could give the knowledge of good.

By violating these instructions, God sent them out of the garden because violating the tree of knowledge of good and evil would also make them also violate the tree of life.

God said in Gen 3: 22  *And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:*

The life of man would now be a mixture of good and evil.

The life of man would not depend on how children of men wished. It would be haphazard.

It was God's wish that children of men would not die but live forever, but they would no longer live forever because of the disobedience in the garden, ref Prov 10:27.

Long life became a wish, not a certainty.

Long life no longer meant life with pleasure and fullness of met desires.

People would be so displeased with life that they would wish they died. It would not matter whether they were rich or poor.

God must have been saying to Adam and Eve that they could not expect such promise to live forever when they had chosen to live as they liked due to their disobedience.

The serpent threw the temptation to eat the tree of knowledge of good and evil over the tree of life because people may only care about how they could enjoy every moment of their lives today but not so much about how long they would live to enjoy it.

Some people destroy their tomorrow today.

People do not care how their tomorrow would be as long as they have their today.

Tomorrow is a wish. Today is a present.

Who cares about living forever when they can live for now?

As far as the devil is concerned, Eve would care more about knowing good from evil rather than the tree of life that would give her everlasting life.

To Satan, tempting them to eat the tree of knowledge of good and evil was more profitable to him than the tree of life.

If people think about their ends or that they would die one day, they would abstain from evil deeds, amassing fortunes, etc.

Both trees were essential to our living because knowing what is good and evil helps us to stay away from danger and live long but certainly not at the cost of God's directives not to eat them.

This may be why God placed them in the midst of the garden, separate and prohibited.

The real test was that if Adam was created in His image, he ought to behave as such and do as He was instructed.

One with God does not rule out His order of instruction and directives and the strict compliance that must go with it.

Jesus said in John 14:31 *"......and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do...."* *...yet He said in John 10:30 I and my Father are one.*

We had chosen practical wisdom, not divine wisdom, we had chosen psychological well-being, choosing what we think we should be not as God wants us to be.

We had chosen learning and knowledge, success and personal management, strategy, planning, and strategizing over what God already created, and He saw that it was good.

Habits replaced divine attributes.

Knowledge and wisdom that were innate at creation were lost, and where they were not made actionable, they became nothing, and children of men became ignorant, untrained, and uneducated.

Some became privileged, some became middle class, many became unprivileged, and many became underprivileged or without any social class.

Adam and Eve were sent out of the Eden. Children of men who were created with wonders became wanderers.

*Remorse corner.*

When God sent Adam and Eve out of the Eden so that they would not eat of the tree of life, lifespan went down at a very fast rate. Life expectancy depleted at an alarming rate. Men no longer live long lives.

*Call to Word action.*

When the tree of life was taken out of the way, God left us with His kind option of satisfying us with long life rather than being entitled to life.

Psalm 91:16 *With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.*

*The Christian clarion duty.*

Adam and Eve were sent out of the garden so that they may not eat of the tree of life. Since then, we have not had access to everlasting life, but in Christ, we will, and He is the tree of life. Now and at ressurection, there shall be no restrictions! Rev 22:1-2.

*Prayer.*

Lord, keep Satan's voice away from me.

Let me live according to Your divine instructions in Jesus name.

Good morning all, and have a blessed day.

God bless you.
