*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*ONLY REMEMBERED....."*
*Scripture Treasure.*
Ecclesiastes 2:16
*For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool.*
*Insight and Highlight.*
Solomon teaches us that we will not be remembered forever for whether we are rich or poor but will be remembered forever for what we have done for God.
*Scripture Commentaries.*
Solomon teaches the rich and poor the importance and essence of eternal remembrance over earthly achievement.
Solomon teaches what many of us may not agree with. He tells us that *".....there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever;....."*
We know there are men whose names are history and will endure as long as the world lasts.
People are honoured in their lifetime, so also people are honored after they are gone.
These men and women are remembered for their different exploits. Some things/inventions we use today are named after them. Streets are named after them. Landmarks are named after them. Holidays are named after them. Their images appear on currency notes, etc. We just can not get them out of our minds.
Solomon was the wisest of his time, and he achieved greatly. People with great achievements appreciate honour and wish to be remembered so Solomon would be in a good position to teach us that there is not so much in such remembrance because it is not forever.
Solomon is not wrong by his statement.
Achievements remembered here on earth with no gain for eternal life with God is temporary, not forever! We will only be remembered forever for what we have done for God.
Knowing that children of men love to honour both the living and the dead, Solomon teaches us that what children of men highly esteem is not esteemed by God.
Many of our illustrious sons and daughters may be fondly remembered by us, but are they forever in the arms of the Lord?
The essence of his teaching is to make people know that earthly achievements, how wise or foolish a person was, will not guarantee their eternal remembrance and peace.
We value positions, recognition, and honour.
What will eventually make these things unimportant is the eternal destination of hell, and what will make them important is the eternal destination of Heaven.
Many have lost their Heaven for earthly achievement, fame, influence, etc.
Solomon is not saying God does not want us to honour our dead, or our illustrious ones, ref Gen 35:19-21, Gen 50:2: 26, he is only teaching that our earthly achievement must match Kingdom values to make it to be remembered.
Solomon is proved right according to
Matt 25: 32-45. After the parable of the ten virgins and the talents/the unprofitable servants, Jesus said He *".....shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left."* and those who will be on His right would be those who when He *".....was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:..."*, Matt 25:35-36.
You can only inherit the Kingdom that you added value to. An account of what you gave to God will be opened for you, Phillpns 4:17.
Any other achievements outside those we achieve for Jesus will be celebrated by people who will go to be forgotten just as we shall be forgotten. They are only good for as long as the world remains.
For those of us who may not agree as stated above, remember that if God could tell us that the heaven and earth He created shall pass away, Matt 24:35, to give way to a new Jerusalem, Rev 21:1-2 then we ought to believe that everything in this earth shall pass away and be totally forgotten.
So it is important for us to think deeply and soberly asking if our earthly achievements to be rich and powerful would influence or propagate God's Kingdom.
If our achievements do, then we can be sure that though our achievements may be remembered for as long as the earth remains, we can be sure they shall be eternally remembered forever.
If, however, they do not, we would only be remembered here on earth but would be forgotten forever. No eternity with God but lost forever.
The remembrance you will receive can not be compared to the Book of Remembrance, Mal 3:16.
Which would you rather choose?
Choose to be written in Christ's Book of Remembrance.
*Remorse corner.*
When your rememberance is forgotten, it means you only achieve or were counted for remembrance on earth, but your works had no eternal value. You have only achieved greatness for yourself and others to remember you but not for God.
*Call to Word action.*
God proved Solomon right through the book of life.
Rev 20:15: *And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.*
*The Christian clarion duty.*
If your name is in the Book of Life and the Book of Rememberance, you shall never be forgotten. You will be remembered here and in the world to come, Mark 10:30.
*Prayer.*
Lord, help me. Do not let my earthly achievement and recognition outweigh the achievements that count towards eternal values for God in Jesus name.
Good morning all, and have a blessed day.
God bless you.
