*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*COME WHAT MAY (5).*
*Scripture Treasure.*
1 Kings 18:4: *For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the Lord, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.*
*Insight and Highlight.*
Even in difficult circumstances, God provides for His people through faithful people like Obadiah.
*Scripture Commentaries.*
In this series of the study of God's faithful servant's resolve to serve, obey, and be on God's side, come what may, we will look at a man called Obadiah.
When servants of God who are faithful to Him remain so, come what may, men like Obadiah say the same thing.
We can expressly confirm that Obadiah had this determination because, as a
servant of the most wicked king Ahab in the history of the kingdom of Israel, he was described as a man who *".....feared the Lord greatly...."* 1 Kgs 18:3.
Though was not described as being in a prophetic ministry like Elijah and the prophets but he was a man of deep faith, loving God in a corrupt kingdom under Ahab and Jezebel.
He is not the same as the Obadiah, the prophet who wrote the book of Obadiah.
There are two sides to his story.
The first was Obadiah's impact and influence on God's prophets. We will look at this today.
God realizes that there are difficult times for people who serve Him faithfully, and He provides faithful people to sustain them.
Obadiah was one of God's vessels for this service.
Jesus warned His disciples.
John 15:8 *If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.*
Paul teaches us that as believers, we are prepared for a time like this.
2 Tim 3:12 *Yea, and all who will live a godly life in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.*
Obadiah was a story of great courage, come what may, what Jezebel would do.
If Jezebel could tell Elijah, she would cut off his head how much evil would she do to a man whom she expected would be loyal to her evil course but was against her?
His story teaches us that God will not leave His faithfuls unprotected and defenseless.
When people serve God come what may, God will not only do what we often think He may, but He would do what He will, His will and what He is able to do, ref Luke 1:37.
His story teaches us faithful service in an ungodly environment.
The story of a man whose boss, Jezebel, was opposed to the worship of God and whose boss engaged God in a religious war against His prophets.
Obadiah, a faithful servant of God under the evil leadership of Ahab and Jezebel, hid fifty prophets in a cave and provided them with food and water.
He saved one hundred of them by hiding them in two caves of fifty each.
It is a story of how some faithfuls who live in fear are saved from their fears.
There is no one God can not use to fulfill His divine will.
He will use people who will actively protect His servants who actively propagate His Kingdom.
If you commit your life to God, come what may, He will commit all His resources to you.
*Remorse corner.*
We can be sure God is working when nothing appears to be working.
While Jezebel was killing the prophets of God, some were being protected.
*Call to Word action.*
You can not make a decision for God and end up losing. Even those who fell to the enemies' sword are deemed honorable as the ones who lived to survive.
*The Christian clarion duty.*
While God's prophets are confronted and killed on the field of assignment, we learn from the killing of Stephen, how God works for the preservation of His prophets through the likes of Obadiah and through His eternal glory, Acts 7:55-60.
*Prayer.*
Lord, please preserve me. Do not let me be wasted by Your enemies. Let me both be preserved here and eternally in Jesus name.
Good morning all, and have a blessed day.
God bless you.
Shalom.
