*Scripture Commentaries.*
Today, we will look at the third lesson Jesus teaches us, having previously looked at the first two.
What did Jesus write on the ground?
What is the significance of Christ stooping to write on the ground?
The third lesson Jesus teaches us is
that the law of Moses requires both the man and the woman to be stoned, Lev 20:10, but only the woman was brought for judgment.
Here, this encounter at the temple near Mount Olives tells us that the accuser of the woman caught in adultery were in violation of the law of Moses under which they laid their accusation.
Where was the man?
Would the decision have been any way different?
Having established that the accusers' case appeared sufficient to prove her case of adultery, counter proof showed her accusers were in violation of the law they hoped to get sentencing for the woman's offense.
It, however, still remains right under Moses' law that both accusers must be brought to justice, but this was not the case.
The accusers have not fully obeyed the law they laid claim on for justice against the woman.
What played out showed Jesus or was enough for Jesus to conclude that the accusers, given additional reasons like the law of the Spirit and their lack of confidence to cast the first stone, lacked sufficient and reasonably accepted reasons to pursue their case.
These reasons may have prompted Jesus to stoop down reasoning within Himself that these accusers do not have a case. They were in violations just as much as the woman was.
Jesus who stooped and rose may be telling them that 'those who come to equity for redress will come with clean hands'.
The accusers had hoped they were more justified, but Christ made them know they were not coming with clean hands either.
Furthermore, whether or not the man with whom the woman was caught in adultery was present or absent, his presence would not change what Jesus would have done.
Just as He stooped, so would He also have stooped if the man were there.
The law of Moses is never fulfilled or does not fulfill its purpose by punishing an offender without the other.
Under Christ new covenant, just as faith is the substance of things hoped for, *the evidence of things not seen.*
the presence or the absence of an offender is not a condition for Christ's advocacy against the accuser of the brethren before God. Christ is ever before God making intercession for us, Rom 8:34.
Our presence or absence does not nullify our sins. Only Christ's advocacy nullifies our sin, and we are justified to have peace with God once Christ pleads on our behalf, Rom 5:1.
Christ's stoop before the accusers became a waiver for the man who was absent how much more for the woman who was present.
Jesus rewrote the law that would ordinarily allow the woman to answer to her charges.
No proof was required, and no evidence was required. Jesus was enough to set the woman free!
*Remorse corner.*
Jesus stooped in order to give you and l a waiver to stand trial, of which we will be guilty without Him.
*Call to Word action.*
Jesus is quick to hear the accusers but slow to speak because He stooped to consider what was before Him
*The Christian clarion call.*
If, however, you fail to accept Christ or after you knew Christ, you backslided, you will stand trial. Jesus will not be there to defend you. It will be eternal damnation.
Stay focused!
*Prayer.*
Lord, l thank you for being my advocate. I am now free of condemnation because of the law of the Spirit
Good morning all, and have a blessed day today.
God bless you.
