*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*A CHILD OF GOD DOES NOT SIN.(6)*
*Scripture Treasure.*
1 John 2:29
*If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.*
*Insight and Highlight.*
We can not see God, but we can see His personhood in people who are born of God because they practice righteousness.
*Scripture Commentaries.*
No one has ever seen God.
John says in Jesus that we can see who God is.
He says in John 1: 18 *No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.*
Though we have never seen Jesus, we know Him by the works of salvation He wrought in us. John further tells us that He was here on earth with us, and there are records in the scriptures, and of those who saw Him were able testifiers, ref John 1:14.
John however emphasizes though we do not know what we shall be, but *".....when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.*, 1 John 3:2.
John further tells us that we the major indicators that tell us that we will look like Jesus are that we are sons of God, born of Him, we are righteous as He is and we purify ourselves as He is pure, ref 1 John 3:3.
Nothing else is a qualified indicator that we are like Him, except righteousness.
Throughout John's writing, he tells us that no one can be in a relationship with Christ if he lacks love and righteousness.
Charisma, qualification, position, etc, do not make the list. While the fruit of the Spirit all matter, John gave special attention to love and righteousness.
These two became the most related illustrations that God is co-joined with.
First is that you are born of God if you are righteous, 1 John 2:29.
Second is, God is love, 1 John 4:8.
The fundamental truth that is the center of John's apostolic teachings is that no matter who or what position and influence you have in the Church, righteousness is not negotiable.
John says if you know Christ is righteous, you will be righteous.
This is why a child of God can not afford any taint of unrighteousness. He must be consistently righteous as Christ is 1 John 2:29.
People must be able to vouch that he is righteous.
The people in Acts saw the likeness of Jesus in His disciples. They were noticeable, and they *".........were called Christians first in Antioch."* ref Acts 11:26.
They saw the likeness of Jesus in Peter and John. They were a pure reflection of the personhood of Jesus. In Acts 4:13, people took knowledge of him and Peter that they had been with Jesus.
*Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.*
This further tells us that many things we count esteemed, like learnedness, especially in scholarly, academical, and proffesorial status, mean nothing to God.
An illiterate, a man of no means or a man of great stature means nothing to God if righteousness is not found.
Peter and John were not known as scholars.
Elijah was only known as *".....an hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins."* This description was enough for King Ahaziah to tell his messagers it was Elijah, 2 Kgs 1:8.
John further says that a pure reflection of a child of God is the love that he shows people he can see. He says when they love people they can see, they have loved Him whom they could not see, 1 John 4:20.
John says you can not love God if you do not obey His commandments.
He says in 1 John 5:2 *By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.*
John further teaches us that true relationship is founded on love between people who relate and remain relatable.
We relate with God because He is love. He will not hurt us. Lam 3:33: *For he doth not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men*.
So, God is relatable. The child of God must believe and relate with Him as He says He is, ref Heb 11:6.
He remains relatable with those who do as He does, John 5:19. The child of God must do as He does, John 5:7.
We carry these attributes and signs of Jesus as a mark, Gal 6:7, and as an epistle of Christ, 2 Cor 3:2.
Jesus bore marks of the nails on His hands , John 20:20 that it was real. He is the Word, John 1:1, Ps 119:89.
Therefore, if the marks and the word of Jesus are real with us are children of God, we must be real with God.
If He is sinless, then the child of God must be without sin.
Your identity as a child of God is contrary to sin. God and sin are incompatible.
Do not sin.
You can do it!
*Remorse corner.*
When you do not sin, you look like Jesus.
*Call to Word action.*
When you sin, you look like Satan.
*The Christian clarion duty.*
Though people can not see God, they can see God through you because you are a child of God who does righteousness.
*Prayer.*
Lord, help me to practice righteousness. Let people see You through me in Jesus name.
Good morning all, and have a blessed day.
God bless you.
