WISDOM IS BETTER THAN STRENGTH
*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*WISDOM IS BETTER THAN STRENGTH.*
*Scripture Treasure.*
Eccl 9:14-18: *There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it:*
*Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.*
*Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.*
*The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.*
*Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.*
*Insight and Highlight.*
Eccl 2:13: *And I saw that wisdom exceeds folly, just as light exceeds darkness:*
*Scripture Commentaries.*
Solomon summarises the epitome of wisdom and sums up the calling card of a wise man.
He sums up the calling card of the wise man as follows:
First: though a wise man may be poor, he is mighty to save a city, Eccl 9:14.
Second, a wise man is better than any strong or energetic person, Eccl 9:15a
Third, a man equipped with arms of war or state of art inventions is no match for a man of wisdom, Eccl 9:18.
Wisdom achieves much, Eccl 10:10.
Though the wise man who delivered the city was not known, his exploits and the deliverance he brought to the city were recorded by the Holy Spirit. Though he was not remembered and his words were despised, he left a calling card: his exploits spoke for him in the chronicles of wisdom.
On this hero, unknown and unremembered but only refered to as a "poor man", Solomon says: *"Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength:....."* Eccl 9:14-15.
Though may be poor, he finds reference in Jesus' word *"Blessed are the poor in spirit...."* Matt 5:3.
Wisdom is only available for those who seek God it.
It is available to people who are willing to get understanding
Daniel says, only the wise can understand the process of purification, can understand when they are tried and tested. He says the wicked cannot see it but only *"....the wise shall understand.”*, ref Daniel 12:10.
Daniel is saying here that volume of speech does not make wise but with a little word, the wise will understand, and run with it. Solomon had written in the same breath in Eccl :9: 17 *"The words of wise men are heard in quiet....."*
Solomon says he is inspired to write Proverbs so as *"To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;"*
He further says many people will hear but out of many that hear, only the wise man will heed. He says about the wise man saying he *".....will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:.* Prov 1:2, 5.
Do you want to be wise?
Its begining stems from the fear of God.
*Remorse corner.*
Prov 9:10 *The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.*
*Call to Word action.*
Prov 19:23 *The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: And he that hath it shall abide satisfied; He shall not be visited with evil.*
*The Christian clarion duty.*
Wisdom can bring into being what no physical force can effect. It has made nonsense of implements of war. It is a life saver!
*Prayer.*
Lord, teach me to know wisdom. Let me heed to the quiet words of the wise, in Jesus name.
Good morning all and be blessed as you come into His presence.
God bless you.
