*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*WHO DO YOU SEE FIRST?*
*Scripture Treasure.*
Psalm 63:1 A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.
*O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;*
*Insight and Highlight.*
Our permanent needs will only be met if we truly see our soul's need to see God first before any other thing.
*Scripture Commentaries.*
There are two things that may be key hunters after the human life.
First is life's current and recurrent turns of adverse events.
The second is our past (that is, our sinful past).
We will look at the first today.
In life, the psalmist tells us of the strong need for God when 'life rolls like a billow'.
The unpredictability of life, especially in challenges, hardship, or downturn, will push our soul to thirst and our flesh to long for God *"..... in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;*
At this time of life, the tendency to turn to God for survival is key.
The wise soul that sees a need to seek God is promised safety, but the soul that goes alone will find himself to blame.
The wise souls, like the psalmist, know that his sufficiency is of God.
Who do you see first *"....in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;*?
Do you see your soul thirsty and longing for God, or do you see yourself as the almighty problem solver who can go it alone?
Life is a mixture of ups and downs. It is a place where moments of peace can be interrupted by challenges or upheavals.
It is a life of different strokes. Different things appeal to different people. Your problem may not appeal to people's sense of help. Only in God can your problem find the needed appeal.
It is tempting to believe we could solve our own problems, but we must accept that the closer we get, the farther we are away from solving them.
We must accept that going it all alone acknowledges the truth that life has the power to overwhelm us.
However, what you see first matters.
If you see yourself as thirsting after your strength, you will see that you will not attain full satisfaction with what you need.
If, however, you see the need for your soul to seek God, you will find fulfillment.
Jesus told the Samaritan woman that if she drank the water from the well, she would thirst again, but if she drank the water He would give her, she will never thirst again, John 4:13-14.
Man-made well of water, personal efforts, provisions, strength, and hard work as good as they are will only satisfy a need temporarily but will not fulfill them permanently.
The Psalmist in Psalm 42 tells us that we have the power to direct our souls to do what is right, and this is to hope in God.
Prov 4:23 tells us we have the power to control and guard it because out of it comes out the issues of life.
The soul of a person is his mind and intellect, his willpower. It is the seat of our emotions. The moment we are sad, our souls are sad and quiet.
The psalmist says we have control over our soul.
We must tell our souls, encourage ourselves, and tell our souls to trust in God because we will *".....yet praise him for the help of his countenance."*, Ps 42:5.
The Psalmist said this two times in Ps 42:5,11.
Encourage yourself by encouraging your soul to continually trust in God.
Tell yourself, tell your soul the need to thirst *".....for God, for the living God:...."*, Ps 42:2.
Who do you see first?
See your soul's need to find God, first before and above all things, ref Matt 6:33.
Do not entice your soul to trust otherwise.
*Remorse corner.*
The overwhelming nature of life tells us that life sucks and saps.
However, the overwhelming nature of Christ is to care for you as babes and suckling to old age, ref Ps 8, Matt 21:16. Is 46:4.
*Call to Word action.*
Ps 84:2 *My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.*
*The Christian clarion duty.*
Psalm 42:1 To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah. *As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.*
*Prayer.*
Lord, let me see my soul's need to find you first above any other thing in Jesus name.
Good morning all, and have a blessed day.
God bless you.
