Eli's failure to humble himself before God after hearing the warning from God through young Samuel had unprecedented and serious consequences.

First, Eli lost the priesthood (ref 1 Sam 2:30-31), which gradually eroded until all the priests of Nob in his lineage were eliminated, except Abiathar, who escaped, 1 Sam 22:20.

This massacre thinned out Eli's descendants.

Second, Eli and his two sons died, 1 Sam 4:11, 17-18.

Third, the glory departed Israel. The ark was taken by the Philistines, 1 Sam 4:21.

Fourth, Abiathar, who escaped the massacre in 1 Sam 22:20, eventually lost the priesthood because of his conspiracy against Solomon, 1 Kgs 1:7, 2:26-27. This marked the end of Eli's lineage in priesthood.

It was one calamity after the other.

Peace departed Eli's home, and righteousness departed his ministry.

Every sin has its root in disobedience.

It is the root from which other sins grow.

God carefully watches His word to perform it. Just as He does to the faithful so also to the unfaithful.

Do not be disobedient. No one can run from God, but you can run *"...into...."*His name and be *".....safe..."*, Prov 18:10.

There is hardly any sin against God without, first, a warning from Him.

1 Sam 3: 13 *For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.*

The key to a righteous and peaceful life is obedience to God!
