*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*WHEN THE TABLE TURNS (2)*
*Scripture Treasure.*
Matt 21:12-13.
*And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,*
*And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.*
*Insight and Highlight.*
While Jesus can turn the table to favor you, He could also choose to overthrow it instead.
*Scripture Commentaries.*
Jesus went into the Temple of God and found
there money changers, who had made much wealth by virtue of their connections and professional advantages. It may be presumed they had amassed much power and wealth exploiting others in the temples.
Jesus, in His anger, entered the temple and overthrew their tables.
There are lessons we can learn from Jesus's reaction here.
We will mention two today.
First, Jesus's reaction to the money changers was that power had changed hands, and the money changers who had power from their unjust practises were now at a loss and at the receiving end.
Those who were squandered or other faithfuls will henceforth have peace and look for a better use of the Temple and their money.
Second, it is God's way of proving to many of us that some of us are not who we say we are.
Some come to the Church for what they can gain for personal interest in the name of God.
We trade on other people's emotions, we trade insults on God's representatives, and we trade on their good and warm-hearts. We often forget that though we may profit, the table will not only be turned soon but will be overthrown.
While we remain true to believe we are all one in Christ and thereby trust and help each other it will later be seen and revealed that every contrary behaviour we eventually show will portray a character that we had once denied or pretended to be. Everything hidden will come to light.
People who deceived will one day show what they claimed or pretended not to be.
Second, the money changers would not come to the Temple if they did not know that there were some of their types there.
Some people come to Church, but not everyone comes to find God.
They are not really complete in Him, ref Col 2:10.
Some of us are like the money changers who attended the Temple. They may be presumed to be a part of the Temple's attendance. They count as members of the temple often doing religious things but are coming to profit at the disadvantage of the Temple and its members.
As Christians, let us be careful.
God is carefully watching.
None of us may be sure of where we would end until it is for time for Him to turn the table.
While Jesus will turn the table to favor you, He can also choose to overthrow it instead.
1 Pet 4:17 says *For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?*
What is Peter saying here?
Let us fear God.
The table will turn one day, but in whose favor? Is it for favor or judgment?
Though we do not know when judgment will begin in the house of God but the predictable event is predictable.
It is true for us to say for sure that judgment will come. We do not need to concern ourselves about when because only God knows, but it is certain that it would one day come.
Judgment is a predictable event. We do not know when it would come, but it is a predicted event and remains predictable.
So, any predicted event in the bible is predictable, though the timing is not!
How would you want God to turn the table for you?
*Remorse corner.*
The expectation is whether He will turn the table in your favour or overthrow it.
*Call to Word action.*
The expectation is whether He will turn the table in your favour to overthrow it later.
*The Christian clarion duty.*
Let your expectation be that He will not overthrow the table but turn the table in your favour.
*Prayer.*
Lord, have mercy on me. Do not turn or overthrow the table against me, in Jesus name.
Good morning all, and have a blessed day.
God bless you.
