WHAT IS YOUR IDOL?
*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*WHAT IS YOUR IDOL?*
*Scripture Treasure.*
Exd 5:1-2 *And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.*
*And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.*
*Insight and Highlight.*
Some people often live as if they do not need God.
*Scripture Commentaries.*
We are in a world in rebellion against God.
The nation of Israel under the captivity of Pharaoh’s Egypt was considered by Pharaoh as God's displeasure for them.
Pharaoh did not know God. He did not even believe there was a deity anywhere not to talk of a God who would demand their release.
The Israelites have been in his custody for 430 years. At least, if they truly had God, they would not be in Pharaoh's custody for that long.
Pharaoh was taking undue advantage of Israel.
Egypt was a nation of idols. They had idols for the sun, the moon, river, fertility,
They were bowing to idols they made or carved themselves.
The greatest human level of depravation is evidence when the mortal says they do not need God.
Pharaoh had more than the idols of Egypt. He himself had an idol of pride and too much power and comfort that made him conclude he could never need God.
The idol in Pharaoh disappeared like a smoke. Every plague was God's power against the idols of Egypt. The God he failed to know as a peace loving, He knew in judgment
What is your own idol?
Too busy, riches and convenience, no time?
*Remorse corner.*
Pharaoh failed to know that the idol in the heart, namely, power, influence, money may be good servants, but they are poor masters!
*Call to Word action.*
Of all idols in the heart, unbelief is chief. Anyone who truly believes in God will honor God with all he/she has. Pharaoh, who rejected God initially, later said to Moses *"I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away: intreat for me*. Exd 8:28.
*The Christian clarion duty.*
Pharaoh would no longer be as rich and powerful. He had too much centered around himself and his possessions.
*Prayer.*
Lord, help me to remove any idol between You and me in Jesus name.
Good morning, and be blessed as you come into His presence.
God bless you.
