*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*"...TWO NATIONS ARE IN THY WOMB...."*
*Scripture Treasure.*
Gen 25:23 *And the Lord said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.*
*Insight and Highlight.*
*".....shall a nation be born at once?...."* Isaiah 66:8.
*Scripture Commentaries.*
When Rebecca's twins were born, they were born Esau and Jacob. The manner of their birth tells us that Esau *".....first came out red, all over like an hairy garment...... "*
*".......after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob:...."* Gen 25:25-26.
The twins troubled their mother's womb so much that Rebecca asked God *"....If it be so, why am I thus?...."* suggesting her difficult and tormenting pregnancy, ref Gen 25:22.
It was not clear who the nations were at birth. All we could see were twins, Esau and Jacob.
Their story of Esau and Jacob became a story of twists and turns, deception and manipulation.
Events surrounding the birth of Jacob and Rebecca's manipulation may have foretold
the sudden and dramatic emergence of Israel as a nation.
The encounter of Jacob with the angel in Gen 32:28 and Jacob's struggle with an angel saw how a nation was formed overnight.
The angel changed Jacob's name to Israel.
This was the first time the name 'Israel' appeared in the scriptures.
Israel became the name of a person.
After the angel changed his name to Israel, Gen 32:28, God confirmed Jacob's new name change. God said *And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.* Gen 35:10.
As Israel, he has *"power with God, and with men, he has prevailed..."*, Gen 32:28
God told Jacob that he would become a great nation, and all the blessings promised to Abraham would also be given to him.
Israel also ultimately became the referenced identity to the people or nation, Gen 47:8, 47:27, Ps 105:23, descended from Jacob.
Today, it is a nation powerful and beloved.
Israel remains the most developed and advanced country in its region. One of the most developed in high-tech and global research and innovation.
Jacob may not have thought he should be a nation and may not have thought he would have been a nation.
Fear gripped Rebecca and Jacob. He fled into exile to Laban, brother of Rebecca, under the directives of Rebecca, Gen 27:43-44.
His name change brought deliverance to him.
Jacob's name change was a confirmation of God's promise to make a nation of him.
Though Jacob, who was marked down for murder met with Esau, but it was Israel who showed up to meet Esau, not Jacob, Gen 33.
Esau saw Israel, a man who has *"....power with God and with men..."* not Jacob, whose *".....hand took hold on Esau's heel;....."*, a heel grabber. One who deserved death for his deception.
Jacob's story teaches how God's power can bring about such a rapid and miraculous transformation, defying both the natural order and firstborn headship.
An overnight renewal so sudden, rapid and striking changed a man who knew Jacob would be dead if he was not blessed.
It teaches how God by His unquestionable nature can quickly, instantly, unexpectedly
bring about significant changes in a short period, even when they seem impossible or unlikely.
It highlights God's power to create anything at any time, and nothing is beyond His creative power.
A mere man became a nation emerging from oppression into the most powerful and fearful nation unmatched in biblical history, Exd 12-14, and a thriving entity till today and unto eternity, Eph 2:12.
Can a new you be born in a day? Yes.
Believe, you were a nation in your mother's womb. Therefore, ask God to fulfill it like He fulfilled it for Jacob
*Remorse corner.*
*".....shall a nation be born at once?...."* Isaiah 66:8. Yes, a nation can be born in a day. Yes, Israel was formed overnight!
God is limitless in what He can create.
*Call to Word action.*
God can bring out a new nation in you. Are you in a period of weakness? The birth of Israel in Jacob into a powerful and thriving entity is an example of what God can do!
*The Christian clarion duty.*
God can make a nation of you.
It teaches how God would give covenant promises to someone yet had nothing to do with his merits or attributes, Rom 9:12.
*Prayer.*
Lord, make a nation of me, in Jesus name.
Good morning all, and have a blessed day.
God bless you.
