SAUL, "A SQUARE PEG IN A ROUND HOLE"

*WISDOM FOR TODAY*

*SAUL: "A SQUARE PEG IN A ROUND HOLE."*

*Scripture Treasure.*

1 Sam 14:29 *Then said Jonathan, My father hath troubled the land:....."*

*Insight and Highlight.*

To fast is good only when your heart is right with God.

*Scripture Commentaries.*

King Saul was "a square peg in a round hole". He was a misfit and, in many ways, unsuitable for role modeling.

He indeed proved himself a misfit and unsuited for parenting and kingship.

Saul not only failed in parenting, but he also failed as a king.

Even in his family, a mentor and mentee relationship was absent.

Not only was this absent, but it was grossly abused.

King Saul called for a fast, which is a spiritual criterion to receiving from God, 1 Sam 14:24.

To fast is good, but to do it when you are not acceptable before God will be of no effect.

Saul was not right with God. He never fitted in the plan of God for the people.

His declared fast resulted in a feeble conviction as it did not achieve the purpose it was meant for.

King Saul was blamed for declaring the fast. It was a command that hurt the people more than it would bless them.

As a result of the fast, the people were weakened by utter exhaustion due to lack of needful refreshment, which prevented them from achieving full victory.

His son, Jonathan, said his father had troubled the land. By this, Jonathan was saying his father's decision to declare a fast was ill-considered and had done grave harm in Israel.

King Saul himself had on an occasion affirmed before David and his (Saul's) own troop that David was a better person in character, 1 Sam 24:17.

David also failed for lack of moral courage to be an elder or father mentor to his children, but he never wished any death for any of his children.

Saul not only wished death for Jonathan, his most prominent child, he wished for David.

Build yourself!

Do not be a square peg in a round hole!

Fit in into God's plan.

Jude 20: *But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,*

*Remorse corner.*

Lack of strength of character makes a person unfit and unsuited.

*Call to Word action.*

King Saul was only after himself, not after the people.

1 Sam 8:9 (NIV) *Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights.”*

*The Christian clarion duty.*

Be upright and righty built.

Eph 2:20-21 *And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;*

*In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:*

*Prayer.*

Lord, do not let me be a misfit.

Let me be built, fitly framed together in Your plan for my life, in Jesus name.

Good morning all, and have a blessed day today.

God bless you.
