*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*SATISFY ME WITH LONG LIFE (3)*
*Scripture Treasure.*
Luke 2:25-30
*And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.*
*And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.*
*And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,*
*Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,*
*Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:*
*For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,*
*Insight and Highlight.*
You can pray God not to take you away so that you can see a desired future.
*Scripture Commentaries.*
Psalm 91:16, which says *With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.* was fulfilled in the life of Simeon.
Though the bible does not tell us how old Simeon was, it is estimated he might have been very old. Regardless, however, we can see the work of the Holy Spirit in righteous people and the link of long life and the Kingdom of God.
For all that must be known, Simeon was satisfied with longlife so that he might see the salvation of the Lord.
God will always work in you by giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.
God works in us, especially in righteous people. We must know why we desire long life.
It is almost certain, from the life of Simeon that if we pray, or better still, if the Holy Spirit sees a rightful desire in our hearts to fulfill God's purpose we could have long life without even asking Him for it.
Luke 2:25-30 does not tell us that Simeon prayed before the Holy Spirit showed him he would see Jesus before he would die but it could be implied he prayed, first because he was a righteous man and second, because he was said to be *".....waiting for the consolation of Israel:...."*
We can see the powerful link between devoutness, righteousness, and God's power in any vessel that does what pleases Him.
Simeon desired the Lord in His heart and whose desire would it not be to carry Jesus in his arms? (ref Ps 37:4).
Whose heart would be like Simeon's that God would not desire to honor him?
God saw his heart and knew Simeon would desire such honor, so He gave him the honour because He knew the heart of men, Rom 8:27.
We must earnestly live to please God, and when we do, it can please Him to do for us what is most uncommon to other people, Gen 5:24, 2 Kgs 2:11.
It was God’s way of endorsing the life of a man, who, though, was unknown to many and who lived a life probably in obscurity.
He was not invited to come to the dedication of Jesus, yet was most honored by carrying Jesus in his arms. He was far honoured above others in the temple that day besides the earthly family of Jesus and the priest.
Some people may be acclaimed to have lived long, but did they see the salvation of the Lord?
The purpose of the psalmist and the essence of a life honored by God is to live long, see God at work, and embrace Him.
As we pray for long life, we must also ask ourselves if there is any reason to show God why we deserve it.
We must search our motives.
We must see His work and be part of Him.
What do you desire long life for?
Is it to see your children's children? It is good, but make it worthwhile both here and eternally that you see the salvation of the Lord and are saved.
Is it that you make more money or oppress or perpetuate power and position?
Make sure you make your life worth living.
See and accept His salvation!
*Remorse corner.*
Life lived long without being saved by Christ, is worthless, and a waste.
*Call to Word action.*
Can God see anything in you to work with?
Philippians 2:13 *For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.*
*Prayer.*
Lord, please grant me long life in order to fulfill Your good purpose, in Jesus name.
Good morning all, and be blessed as you go today.
God bless you.
