*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*REVERENT FEAR IN SERVICE.*
*Scripture Treasure.*
Proverbs 29:25 *The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.*
*Insight and Highlight.*
Perhaps the greatest disservice we do to ourselves is the fear of mortals like us.
*Scripture Commentaries.*
God does not want oppression. He does not want anyone to be oppressed.
There is a difference between reverent fear and cowardice fear.
Reverent fear is a God-command fear.
Cowardice fear is a fear of an intimidated person. He is timid and scared.
Cowardice fear teaches that people can fear other people uncontrollably and unreasonably.
We must overcome this cowardice.
This fear is considered unreasonable because it is very dangerous to the soul. It is the source of captivity and a snare. It can affect self-confidence, morals, one's relationship with God, other people, and the liberty to live a peaceful life.
Cowardice fear is to be under the control of one or more people.
Prov 29:25 says when we fear people, we are locked in a trap, but
trusting the LORD brings safety.
This fear is discouraged when compared to a respectful, honorable, and God-fearing fear for people in the position of authority or even to fellow children of men, for example, parents, elders, etc.
Without a doubt, there are people who occupy powerful positions and authority.
They should be respected and honored, Rom 13:1. However, this should not be of fear that outweighs the fear of God, Eccl 12:13, 1 Pet 2:17.
Every authority is subject to God.
As much as God commands, they be honored, so God also protects those under them from the fear of being oppressed or put under bondage.
God is a God of balanced principles.
and those in authority must not instill fear in people under them, neither should they rule in terror, Rom 13:3.
Every mortal, no matter the status, is under God.
No matter what status a person holds, either low or high, there is a measure of honor and respect due him/her, James 2:1-9.
Honor and respect those who are over you. To honor and respect them is to honor God. However, fear no man to please him over pleasing God.
*Remorse corner*
Col 3:22 *Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:*
*Call to Word action.*
Ephesians 6:5-6
*Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;*
*Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;*
*The Christian clarion duty.*
The Christian must be a role model of honor and respect to God's laid down authority. So Christian leaders must lead in ensuring reverent fear rather than cowardice fear in their followers.
*Prayer.*
Lord, help me to respect God laid down authorities. Help me to walk in holy fear. Let me do all, trusting God, in Jesus name.
Good morning all, and have a blessed day.
God bless you.
