Lam 5:12 Princes have been hung up by their hands; elders receive no respect.
Scripture Commentaries
Paul's admonition to Timothy should not be confined to the ecclesiastical.
Our children must be trained how to respectfully relate with the older and the elderly. As scriptures admonished we honor our fathers and mothers so also those who are considered elderly in the Lord Eph 6:1-2.
God demands obeisance from the younger to the elderly, Lev 19:32 Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honor the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD.
King Solomon from his throne as king, refusing the traditional respect due him from his mother asking, stood up from his throne, to receive his mother, Bathsheba:
1 Kings 2:19. Bathsheba, therefore, went unto king Solomon, to speak unto him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself unto her, and sat down on his throne, and caused a seat to be set for the king's mother, and she sat on his right hand.
Humility and respect must be the epitome of a thoroughbred and a well-home trained child of God.
Any new generation ideas or customed doctrines associated with an office that undermines due respect to elders must be done away with.
Job 32:4,6 Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken because they were elder than he.
And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I was afraid and durst not shew you mine opinion.
