Isaiah 58:6 *Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?*

Obedience is better than sacrifice.

*Scripture Commentaries.*

It is important that we wait for directions from God before we proceed.

When we disobey, our testimonies become tales. Our tales become like the proverbial tale of 'the tail wagging the dog.'

A tale of '....the tail wagging the dog.' tells us we are doing the less to achieve the powerful.

This means we are being controlled by something less important to achieve the powerful.

We can see in the scriptures that a man could be doing the right things but at the wrong time.

From Isaiah 58:6, we can see that the people were fasting but with a wrong purpose. This tells us that fasting and prayer may be questionable, and prayers remain unanswered if we fail to do what is needful at first.

Prayers of renowned men of God, whom God never failed to heed their intercessory prayers, could get to a stalemate with God when they pray for disobedient people, Jer 15:1, Ezk 14:14.

Our spiritual devotion could be a total waste when disobedience as to how to go about it is ignored!

First, do what God expects of you, then fasting, prayers, and other ways to seek Him could follow.

We will achieve more with God when obedience sets the pace.

1 Sam 15:22 *And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.*

You can not appease God with sacrifices when you have not pleased Him with obedience.

Lord, help me to please You with obedience, in Jesus name.
