*MARRIAGE IS HONORABLE (2)*

Hebrews 13:4 *Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.*
*Insight and Highlight.*
It is purposed by God that marriage will cure adultery.
*Scripture Commentaries.*
In the beginning, marriage was intended to cure adultery.
Paul says in 1 Cor 7:9 *"But if they can not contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn."*
God's word is forever settled.
Today, however, marriage is abused among some married couples, and it no longer remains a cure for adultery.
It is not surprising to say that though distance between married couples may be a contributory factor to adultery, some married couples who live together commit adultery under their noses!
God tells us two things among many others about marriage in the scriptures.
First, he says through the Apostle Paul that couples must not only consumate their relationship, they must also communicate and mutually respect the brief suspension of consummation.
This means to say, they must speak to each other when there will be no intimacy for a chosen period. They must do so ,*.....by permission, and not of commandment.*, 1 Cor 9:6.
It is not proper for one of them to unilaterally abstain or refrain from the other without consent.
None should hide behind the spiritual to impose abstinence on his/her spouse.
Every man and woman of God must respect this as one of God's orders of promoting a mutual, harmonious, enjoyable marriage.
None has the power over his/her body to bar access to the other, 1 Cor 7:4. To do so is to defraud each other, and it is counted as incontinency.
Incontinency is best described as unjustifiable and wilful restraint of your spouse's passion or a sexual pleasure he/she could not control unless satisfied, 1 Cor 7:5.
When this happens, Paul says Satan can tempt either partner.
God is holy and romantic (Songs of Solomon 1-8), and it is holy before Him for married couples to have a healthy sex life in the confines of a holy matrimony. Heb 13:4 *.....the bed undefiled..."*
Second, God expresses the importance of marriage as coming together of two people; the man and the woman, Gen 2:24.
This admonishes that we are sexual people and that procreation is the fundamental reason for our sexuality.
God said we are to *.....Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth,....* Gen 1:28.
Though people procreate without marriage but it is discovered that a family raised in a God-fearing marriage tends to be socially beneficial than from a father or mother absent home.
Marriage is honorable. Why? because God says so!

There is more to marriage than procreation. It is family fellowship with God according to His plan and purpose for a holy and responsible church and society.

Lord, help me to respect and honor God's order of a holy marriage in Jesus name.
