JESUS: GREATER THAN SOLOMON.

*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*

*JESUS: GREATER THAN SOLOMON.*

*Scripture Treasure.*

Matt 12:42 *......and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.*

*Insight and Highlight.*

While David retained his name in Jesus, Solomon lost his name in Him.

*Scripture Commentaries.*

Solomon, who became a wisdom prodigy, lost his footing to apostacy.

While it is recorded that his father David confessed and repented of his sin, it was not recorded anywhere that Solomon repented of his sin of multiplying wives.

While Jesus is named Son of Man and Son of David, Jesus came to make little or nothing of Solomon.

Jesus said about Solomon and his glory, saying, *".......Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:*

*And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.* Matt 6:28-29.

In Matt 12:42, Jesus said, *"......and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.*

Jesus was not saying the wisdom Solomon wrote in the scriptures was of non effect. He was saying that in Him can all the wisdom be fulfilled.

Solomon had wisdom and wrote wisdom, but he did not end up fulfilling the wisdom he wrote by the way he ended his life.

It is one thing to have wisdom, but it is another thing to live by the wisdom.

He, Jesus, had come and will live by every word He spoke. This is why He is greater than Solomon.

Though Jesus is greater than David, He never anywhere said He was greater than David. He called Himself the Son of Man and was referred to as the Son of David, Matt 8:20; 20:28, Luke 18:38.

One could say the covenant was with David but we ought also to remember that one of David's greatest wish was to build a house for God but God refused and gave the privilege to Solomon, 1 Sam 7: 11-13, 1 Chro 28:2-3.

As God established His covenant with David, so He did to Solomon, 1 Sam 7:14-17, but sin shortened the earthly kingdom of David from the time of Solomon.

First, the kingdom of Israel was divided into two during the reign of Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, 1 Kings 11:34-37.

Second, the temple Solomon built was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar, and both Israel was carried away into captivity in Babylon, Jer 20-22; 24-29; 32; 34-45; 52. Judah was carried away also, 2 Chron 36:20.

The Lord's affliction began in earnest on the divided nation; the seed of David *...but not forever.*, 1 Kgs 11:39

Solomon's death is recorded in 1 Kgs 11:40 with no remorse, confession, or repentance from him.

God's mercy and the power of repentance sustained David's name in Jesus. Though Solomon remained in Jesus, his wisdom would be of effect only if lived with the fear of Christ, not after the life of Solomon.

*Remorse corner.*

Though Solomon remains in Jesus' genealogy forever, Jesus wants us to find fulfillment of his wisdom in Him rather than in Solomon

*Call to Word action.*

Matt 12:42 *......and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.*

*The Christian clarion duty.*

While David retained his name in Jesus, Solomon lost his name in Him. His wisdom must be seen and lived in the life of Christ, or else life will be vanity upon vanity.

*Prayer.*

Help me to find fulfillment in the words of wisdom by Solomon by living a life of Christ in Jesus name.

Good morning all and have a blessed day.

God bless you.
