*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*

*JESUS (6)*

*Scripture Treasure.*

John 2:1-11

*And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:*

*And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.*

*And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.*

*Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.*

*His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.*

*And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.*

*Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.*

*And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.*

*When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,*

*And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.*

*This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.*

*Insight and Highlight.*

Jesus' first miracle revealed Him and the source of life and the power to sustain it.

*Scripture Commentaries.*

In the marriage in Cana, Jesus teaches us a few things.

First is, when we invite Jesus into our affairs we can be sure of His help, guidance, provision and the divine ability to turn what may want to appear as shame to glory.

You invite Jesus, when after you may have made preparations, allocated resources towards the celebration or event, you pray for His divine presence, Prov 16:9, 19:21.

Jesus's presence facilitated His inexhaustible provision that though man may prepare to feast as many as he could invite, there is a limit he could provide. Man's provision can never be enough even for the people he invites to his ceremony.

The key part of this wedding in Cana was that *"......Jesus was called.......to the marriage.* So were His mother and His disciples.

Mary the mother of Jesus, probably was sympathetic of the situation and beckoned on Jesus' intervention.

Human desperation provoked an unusual divine intervention.

It was not the governor of the feast that requested for Jesus's intervention, it was His mother, an invitee that requested for Jesus' intervention.

It is an accepted practice to provide for guests at a ceremony you invited them but it is disgraceful not to have enough for them to drink how much more to eat.

Only Christ *".....is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think,....."* Eph 3:20.

Second is, in the marriage in Cana, Jesus teaches of some conflicts that usually happens when others seek miracles from Jesus on our behalf but we give the praise to another, not Jesus.

Mary called for Jesus' intervention. Jesus requested of His disciples to fill the waterpots with water, in the process He changed the water to wine and asked to present it to the governor of the feast (who knew the wine provided before had run but did not know of the new wine *"......but the servants which drew the water knew;)"*

When the new wine was presented to the governor of the feast, he tasted the miraculous wine and was amazed, noting its superior quality compared to wine served earlier.

He, instead called the bridegroom, praising him for saving the best wine for last, unaware of Jesus' miracle.

It was not the bridegroom that provided the last minute miracle. It was Jesus and He still provides the miracles as at when due for us.

While Jesus was teaching how we can trust Him (true faith) for abundance rather than putting total trust on ourselves (a limited and superficial belief) we always end up arrogating miracles of God to ourselves.

The governor of the feast arrogated the provision of the last minute wine to the acute or smart sense of preparation of the bridegroom rather than the miraculous acts of Jesus!

The govenor of the feast did not share the glory of Christ, he gave it totally to the bridegroom.

Some do not totally give His glory to themselves, they share His glory with Him.

We must never arrogate Christ's miracle to any other.

Isaiah 42:8 *I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.*

Do not share Christ's miracles with Him.

*Remorse corner.*

Jesus' miracle teaches that we ought not do anything without inviting Jesus.

*Call to Word action.*

Jesus' miracle at Cana does not only teach that Jesus is the source of life and its sustaining power, He is able to change shame to glory.

*The Christian clarion duty.*

Isaiah 48:11

*For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.*

*Prayer.*

Lord let me not do anything without You and let me not share Your glory with You in Jesus name.

Good morning all and have a blessed day.

God bless you.

Shalom.
