*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*GENERATION: BOOMERS, BOOSTERS, OR BLOOPERS? (2)*
*Scripture Treasure.*
1 Kings 12:8 *But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him:*
*Insight and Highlight.*
In seeking counsel, the quality of the counselor(s) is very important. Counsels from hundreds of foolish peers are not better than one godly counsel.
*Scripture Commentaries.*
Passage of time tells us about the changing world and defines generations.
Rather than trying to do damage control, we can avoid the damage.
Rehoboam made a mistake.
Yesterday, we looked at two questions.
What can we learn from the mistakes of King Rehoboam?
What are the impacts of the ideas, ideals, and thoughts in nation-building where different generations find themselves in the same time of this social and national issue?
Under the first question, we looked at two reasons. Today, we will further look at answering the first question under one additional reason, and this is the question that arises concerning a leader's maturity.
Maturity may have very little or nothing to do with age, greatness, experience, etc, when it comes to governance or decision making.
Eccl 10:16 says, *"Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child,....."*
While *The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head.*, Prov 20:29, Job 32:9 says *Great men are not always wise, neither do the aged understand judgment.*
Prov 16:31 says *The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.*
Solomon, his father, acquired wisdom by asking God, though he deviated by not following what he wrote in his many writing of wisdom, Rehoboam could have done the same, ref Jam 1:5.
Rehoboam could have checked with God and would see that the words of the elders were better for him and in the best interest of the people.
Solomon associates wisdom with longevity. He says wisdom makes a young man appear as an aged and mature man because his days are prolonged. In other words, wisdom muliltiplies your age. It gives you the stature of a responsible elder.
He says that wisdom is found with the elderly, and understanding comes with long life. Job 12:12 *With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.*
It was not surprising that his reign was marked with the division of the Kingdom, and he may not have lasted as his father, Solomon (forty years on the throne) lasted.
A short period of time and a long period of time may as well be the same with God, 2 Pet 3:8, but a long time with ungodly friends or counsellor is not better than a short time with God and godly counsellors.
*Remorse corner.*
Prov 29:2: *When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.*
*Call to Word action.*
Psalms 22:28 *For the kingship and the kingdom are the LORD'S, and He rules over the nations*
*The Christian clarion duty.*
Counselors should bring safety in counsel, not damage, Prov 11:14.
*Prayer.*
Lord, help me to give safe counsel, in Jesus name.
Good morning all, and have a blessed day.
God bless you.
