END OF THE WICKED AND THEIR WICKEDNESS(2)

*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*

*END OF THE WICKED AND THEIR WICKEDNESS (2).*

*Scripture Treasure.*

Genesis 19:24-25 *Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven;*

*And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.*

*Insight and Highlight.*

Gen 13:13 *But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly.*

*Scripture Commentaries.*

Gen 13 records God's call of Abram to separate himself but he took Lot with him.

There developed a strife between Abram and Lot and Lot separated choosing *"...the plain of Jordan that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah,...."* Gen 13:10.

Both Sodom and Gomorrah had kings, Gen 14:8.

The first indicator of God's anger over Sodom and Gomorrah was when they fell at the vale of Siddim and all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah were taken away, including Lot, Gen 14:8-12.

Inspite of Abram's conquest at recovering all that was stolen, Sodom and Gomorrah persisted in their evil, Gen 18:10. There was none righteous except Lot who was spared, Gen 18:20-33.

Judgment on Sodom and Gomorrah was imminent and irreversible, Gen 19:1-29.

The destruction gives us an example of how God judges sin and the wicked.

By God's fierce judgment, Sodom and Gomorrah and its people will no longer exist.

The much salt that Lot's wife turned into and the sulphur that came from the Lord formed much of the now known Dead Sea, Gen 19:26, 19:24 (NIV).

Today, historians have found out that the Dead Sea which constitutes enormous salt reserve must have dated back to

the time of Abraham and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

The cities are no more but the dead sea with its salty content, where no living thing dwells now sits on the extinct

Sodom and Gomorrah.

The vale of Siddim which sits around Sodom and Gomorrah is reffered to in the scriptures as the salt lake (Gen 14:3): which is another name for the Dead Sea

The Dead Sea's main source is the Jordan River and this is exactly where

Sodom and Gomorrah were situated, (Gen 13:10-12.)

The destruction of these cities is a wake up call to how God can over turn a once green pasture to a place where no one dwells, Gen 13:10.

Let the righteous pray to put an end to the wicked and their wickedness so that the rod of the wicked does not rest upon the lot of the righteous.

*Remorse corner.*

Let the righteous pray!

*Call to Word action.*

Ezekiel 16:49-50 *Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.*

*And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.*

*The Christian clarion call.*

The righteous often suffer with the ungodly. Lot's exit from Sodom and Gomorrah was the begining of an end.

Lot was urged to escape to Zoar the sun rose upon him there but he left *"...for he feared to dwell in Zoar:..."*.

From Zoar, he dwelt in a cave where his daughters committed incest with him, Gen 19: 20-23, 30-38.

*Prayer.*

Lord, put an end to the wicked and their wickedness.

Psalm 125:3 *" For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity*., in Jesus name.

Good morning all and have a blessed day today.

God bless you
