....BY MYSELF HAVE I SWORN....

WISDOM FOR TODAY.

...BY MYSELF HAVE I SWORN...."

Scripture Treasure.

Genesis 22:16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:

Insight and Highlight.

When God swore to Abraham by Himself, He was saying every word He had spoken was on His integrity.

Scripture Commentaries.

God swore by Himself to Abraham.

God is sovereign. Eccl 3:14 says ......whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.

He does not need to prove the assurance or certainty of His word.

If you like, believe it. If you like , do not believe (Rev 22:11).

What you decide to do will not dimish or add anything to God. He dwells in perfect existence, and He is independent of all His creation.

Given the above, God did not need to swear, but He swore to Abraham. Why?

First, by swearing to Abraham, God was saying that since He can not cease from existence, the promise to Abraham and his seed will also be in existence perpetually.

This makes Abraham a seed.

Abraham remains a seed rather than a dead and buried man. His seed/descendants, though, will go through death and be buried, will grow from generation after generation indefinitely. By this, Abraham and his seed will not cease in existence.

Second, by God's swear, no law can change, ratify, or cancel it.

God's oath to him can not be annulled.

It is an ".....oath for confirmation.... of which there shall be no strife, appeal, or contention from anyone now and never. Even the law of Moses given to him by God could not change God's oath to Abraham. If it did, God would be breaking his promise, Heb 6:16-18

Third, by swearing, God staked His integrity for Abraham.

Many are concerned about names, titles, and positions, but God is more concerned about His word, spoken, and/or or written

The Psalmist in 138:2 says, "I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

God will not speak without a reason to do so.

Every word of God carries this powerful oath of God with it.

Isaiah 45:23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

Fourth, God stakes His Personhood and personality.

He was telling Abraham that if all He told Abraham did not come true, then He is not who He said He was to him and who He says He is to us.

Swearing by Himself to Abraham

was a way of telling him that His personality was tied to His promise to Him.

If His promise failed, then He had failed. If Abraham does not become a great nation and if in Isaac, he is not established, then He is not God.

By swearing to Abraham, He was telling him that He, God, can not lie.

It was an oath of assurance of His promise of the unchangeableness of His purpose concerning Abraham.

God was saying, He was perfectly sure that he would never change His mind,

Heb 7:21 says but he became a priest with an oath when God said to him: 'The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: 'You are a priest forever.'

Remorse corner.

By swearing by Himself, God was telling Abraham that as long as l live will, my promise live.

Call to Word action.

By swearing, God gave Abraham a covenant of salt, a covenant of perpetual obligation.

There will always be a power working behind the working covenant to make it work.

Christian clarion duty.

God swore to Abraham to make His word God in Abraham.

Prayer.

Lord, please bring to pass all that You have promised to do in my life, in Jesus name.

Good morning, and have a blessed day.

God bless you.
