*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*BE PURPOSEFUL, NOT POPULAR.*
*Scripture Treasure.*
John 1:22-23 *Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?*
*He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.*
*Insight and Highlight.*
To everyone God sent, He gave a voice.
*Scripture Commentaries.*
God gave John the Baptist a voice and to make the way ready for the coming of Jesus.
An already rough path made so by the hardening of the hearts of the people would need to be made straight.
He was in the wilderness of disobedient and unrepentant people who were expected to be more concerned about the message that would make them ready for the Lord who is coming, but they were asking questions about the messenger.
John spoke with power and did not mince his words. He was an ardent winner of soul for repentance, Matt 3:3-12. Jesus referred to him as a man who was not *..... a reed shaken with the wind*, Matt 11:7.
Jesus was saying John was not a man tossed to and fro. He speaks as it is.
He was not a man tossed to and fro by every word of doctrine or by the winds of popular opinion.
John was purposeful. His voice calling for repentance was purposeful, not the kind of popular message the people wanted to hear.
Are you purposeful or popular?
*Remorse corner.*
When you have a voice, you will not be swayed this way and that by the winds of popular opinion.
*Call to Word action.*
Ephesians 4:14 says, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.”
*The Christian clarion duty.*
We must lean wholly on God. Just because others are doing it does not make it right. Stand firm as a rock, be faithful.
*Prayer.*
Lord, help me to lean wholly on you.
Let me be purposeful, not tossed to and fro by popular opinion, in Jesus name.
Good morning all and have a blessed day today.
God bless you.
