*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*ANOINTING (9).*
*Scripture Treasure.*
2 Kgs 13: 14.
v14 *Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.*
*Insight and Highlight.*
Proximity may not be closeness.
The far away heathen King of Israel saw what Gehazi, a close servant of the anointed Elisha, could not see.
*Scripture Commentaries.*
In continuation of the look into the anointing of Elisha at death, we will look at two things.
First, the anointing is for the taking for those who seek it and those who receive it as God gives it.
Peter says in Acts 2:39 *“For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”*
Elisha took the anointing with him.
The probable successor, Gehazi, could not see what a heathen King of Israel saw.
A king saw in Elisha, the power he did not have. He knew that if Elisha went, so went the power.
The King of Israel did not leave Elisha without a feel of the power of the anointing upon Elisha.
An anointing that should have been taken up by Gehazi went with Elisha into his grave.
Secondly, the anointing is ever fresh, doing something new, something different, yet remaining as powerful.
2 Kgs 2:14 says about the mantle Elisha took from Elijah: *Then he took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the waters. "Where now is the LORD, the God of Elijah?" he asked. And when he had struck the waters, they parted to the right and to the left, and Elisha crossed over.*
The anointing took effect immediately.
This immediate effect of the anointing that should be reflected on Gehazi, if he had received it, was made manifest in the raising of a dead body.
The anointing passed him by!
How a man could retain, in death, the life of a prophet and a servant of God even at death is remarkable.
The anointing is needed here on earth. It would look like it must not be returned to the One who gave it but must be made manifest in someone, ref Isaiah 53:10-11.
Gehazi missed out on what could have been a never-ending spiritual endorsement far and much greater than Elijah and Elisha, but it was not meant to happen.
He missed out on the anointing, and he became irrelevant and extinct forever.
Do more than your best in order to ensure that the anointing does not bypass you.
*Remorse corner.*
Do not let the anointing bypass you.
*Call to Word action.*
Gehazi left no trace, no impact because he failed to receive the anointing. His way was like *".....the way of a serpent upon a rock;....'*, Prov 30:19.
*The Christian clarion duty.*
An anointing you do not honor can not work for you.
*Prayer.*
Lord, do not let me be careless. Let not the anointing bypass me, in Jesus name.
Good morning all, and be blessed as you come into His presence today.
God bless you.
