*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*ANOINTING (5)*
*Scripture Treasure.*
1 Samuel 10:1, 10
*Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?*
*And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.*
*Insight and Highlight.*
An anointing that is not maintained can be lost.
1 Samuel 16:14: *But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him.*
*Scripture Commentaries.*
The true anointing you receive must show the Christ who gave it in you!
It is important that the anointing we receive justifies that we are true children of God.
We, however, see in the life of anointed King Saul and David that being anointed is one thing. Living to justify the anointing received is another thing.
Saul was anointed at the beginning, and this marks his official enthronement as King over Israel.
We later see his much engrossed and untold hatred for David that made the Spirit of God leave him.
We see in David how after he was anointed three times, 1 Samuel 16:13, 2 Samuel 2:4, 2 Samuel 5:3. he went after to commit adultery with Bathsheba in 2 Sam 11.
Why would an anointed like Saul, David, misbehave in spite of their anointing?
We will look at two reasons but will mention one today.
First, we see that when men begin to do evil, they continue in it, and they can not soon stop.
One may want to ask why they were anointed, knowing they still struggled morally.
The same question will still be asked today of men anointed under the New Covenant yet were caught in sin.
We see that by our uncontrolled and untamed behavior, we may, after anointed, make ourselves bad witnesses of God's goodness and power.
The anointing is God on flesh, does what flesh can not do but not what flesh can but do if uncontrolled.
Just like we still have to mortify our flesh, Rom 8:13, keep under my body, and bring it into subjection, 1 Cor 9:27 after we have been regenerated: the same discipline is required and necessary after we receive anointing for consecration.
Anointing process or consecration may be described as a means to an end. A process whereby we are consecrated by oil in order to accomplish a service or goal for God.
While anointed, holiness remains a very important lifestyle and virtue in order to maintain the anointing.
In both lives of Saul and David, we can observe the steps of their sins.
We see how the way of sin is downward. Sin thrives when uncontrolled, and when made a habit, it can not soon stop.
Even after Bathsheba, David still multiplied wives. He had wives before Bathsheba, and he had after Bathsheba. Under the New Covenant, David would not have remained King, ref 1 Tim 3.
The anointed must be holy and continue a life of separation unto the Lord, 2 Cor 6:17.
*Remorse corner.*
The anointed must work on himself to maintain his anointing.
*Call to Word action.*
2 Tim 2:19 *Nevertheless, the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.*
*The Christian clarion duty.*
Sin will neutralize and delete anointing
Nadab and Abihu were two of four children of Aaron anointed for service, Exd 29, Lev 8, until they were consumed by fire, Lev 10:1.
*Prayer.*
Lord, help me continue to live a life of holiness in order to maintain my anointing in Jesus name.
Good morning all, and have a blessed day.
God bless you.
