ANOINTING (2)
*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*ANOINTING (2).*
*Scripture Treasure.*
2 Kings 2:9 *And it came to pass, when they had gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee.” And Elisha said, “I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.”*
*Insight and Highlight.*
Anointing is by the Spirit of God in the spirit of man.*
*Scripture Commentaries.*
In continuation of our study of the anointing, the raising of the dead in the sepulchre of Elisha further teaches us the following.
We will mention two reasons today.
First, anointing is in the Spirit.
Our relationship with God is in the Spirit. Paul said that he that is joined with the Lord is one Spirit, 1 Cor 6:17.
John 4:24 says, *"God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."*
To illustrate the Sprit-anointing relationship, the request of Elisha deserves closer attention. Elisha asked Elijah *"....I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.”*, 2 Kgsx2:9.
Since anointing is in the Spirit, the death of Elisha will not prevent the power of the anointing in his spirit from manifesting because the spirit of a dead man does not die, though he was dead bodily.
The spirit of a dead man goes back to God, who gave it Eccl 12:7. Elisha died bodily, but his spirit did not die.
This is why, though Elisha was dead, but with a spirit that was still alive, he could raise a dead body.
Second, the power of the anointing in the life of Elisha was attributable to the power in the tongue and spirit of Elijah.
Elisha's raising of the dead in his sepulchre must complete the fulfillment of the request for the double portion of Elijah's spirit.
Elijah gave Elisha the double portion of his spirit that Elisha requested for, and the bible records exactly twice as many miracles as 28 through Elisha and 14 miracles through Elijah.
We must know that the spirit of an anointed man of God is a spiritual powerhouse.
Whatever was in the spirit of the anointed was God's Spirit.
The spirits of the prophet are subject to the control of the prophet, 1 Cor 14:32.
Elijah said to Elisha *Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.*, 2 Kings 2:10.
Elisha's future was now dependent on what Elijah did, and what else God would do would be subject to what Elijah said.
Elisha received Elijah with utmost honor, and he received a prophet's reward.
Matt 10:41 *He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.*
The words of God's prophet are the words of the Lord. When they speak, God honors them.
Honor the anointed of the Lord today, and you will receive a prophet's reward.
*Remorse corner.*
1 Sam 3:19. *And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.*
*Call to Word action.*
2 Chronicles 20:20 *".......Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.*
*The Christian clarion duty.*
Respect and honor the word of the anointed of God.
*Prayer.*
Lord, help me to grow and wax strong in the spirit. Let me be joined with the Lord in one Spirit, Luke 1:80, 1 Cor 6:17), in Jesus name.
Good morning all, and have a blessed day.
God bless you.
